10,000 jobs to be created at Dutch airport
10 January 2012
Return to index
The long term employment future of the Netherlands could be about to be boosted by a proposed expansion to an airport in the country.
Speaking on Radio Netherlands Worldwide, Schiphol airport chief executive officer Jos Nijhuis said that the expansion of the airport will cost the over a billion Euros, but that it could see a massive boost to the employment market.
"We are talking about an investment well in excess of one billion euros which will generate at least 10,000 additional jobs," he said.
The airport is now just waiting for a final decision, which Mr Nijhuis said will be made in the spring.
In the past decade, the airport has seen a growth of ten per cent in the number of customers it has seen pass through, and has extra space to expand still.
Dutch workers were recently exposed by the central statistical agency as working more overtime than those in any other nation.
