Agency work 'provides experience for young people'

24 December 2010
Employment experience is one of the key benefits for young people undertaking agency work, it has been claimed.

Temporary jobs can enable jobseekers looking for their first permanent role with an opportunity to access vocational training and build their skills base.

This is according to the managing director of the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Eurociett), who suggested agency work "is actually the most secure form of external flexible work and should be differentiated from the less secure forms of employment".

He added one in three individuals doing jobs through an agency in Europe will have a permanent contract offered to them within a year of taking such roles and described such positions as "a stepping stone to access and move through the job market".

Denis Pennel was commenting on the European Union's European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion, which is one of seven flagship initiatives under the 2020 Strategy for the region.
