Australia 'faces shortage of skilled engineers'

31 January 2011
The number of candidates available to fill skilled roles for engineers in Australia is insufficient, an expert insists.

Individuals seeking engineering jobs in Australia may be interested in comments made by James Embelton to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The managing director of the Embelton Group, based in Melbourne, explained his business has started to form partnerships with universities in order to offer students work experience opportunities and ensure a flow of potential employees.

He stated: "The benefit to us is that we not only have an opportunity to help train these students but an opportunity to hire them when they graduate."

Further staffing shortages are also being reported by the Melbourne Leader, which claims top restaurants in the city are struggling because of a talent gap in the hospitality sector.

In an article, the newspaper pointed to vacancies for apprentice chef and kitchen staff across the area as levels of demand rise for hotels, restaurants and large catering businesses.
