Brazil 'faces a shortage of engineers'

26 November 2011
Those looking for engineering jobs may want to consider emigrating to Brazil, as the country is in need of people with engineering skills.

That is according to Nuria Pont, head of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Sao Paulo, who told the Associated Press that increasing number of businesses are looking to expand in the South American country.

She stated that Brazil is seen as a land of opportunity by those in Europe who are finding it difficult to secure jobs in their own countries.

Ms Pont highlighted several challenges the Latin American economic powerhouse faces with regards to filling skilled vacancies.

"There is also a shortage of skilled professionals (such as engineers) which Brazil will take another five or six years to train," she told the news provider.

Brazil's statistics agency IBGE revealed recently that the country's unemployment rate fell to 5.8 per cent in October, although real wages remained flat.
