Brazilian industrial employment holds steady

Industrial employment in Brazil was stable during October 2010 compared with the previous month for the third consecutive period.

This is according to new figures from the nation's Institute of Geography and Statistics, which reveal the sector was stable at 0.0 per cent during the period in question following an increase of 0.1 per cent in August and a dip of 0.1 per cent in September.

In the Monthly Survey of Industrial Employment and Wages, the body revealed the number of people working in industry rose by 4.2 per cent over the year to October 2010.

However, hours paid has dipped in both September and October, by 0.4 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively, while pay compared with October 2009 was four per cent higher.

Meanwhile, those seeking jobs in Brazil may also be interested in data showing the country's gross domestic product rose by 0.5 per cent between the second and third quarters of 2010 to R$ 937.2 billion.
