05 August 2011
Return to index
A proposal has been made to create a worldwide public-private initiative to look at ways of addressing talent gaps in the
IT
sector.
Trade body CompTIA in the US has revealed it is planning to bring together government leaders with
industry
professionals and academics in order to tackle the need for skilled workers in the field.
The new Global
IT
Workforce Council was announced during an
IT
conference and is intended to "promote current strategies and develop new ideas to address the need for large numbers of skilled
IT
workers both in the United States and in other countries", according to CompTIA president and chief executive Todd Thibodeaux.
Up to 15 members will sit on the organization, which will look at ways of developing a holistic and unified long-term strategy to meet labor issues in the field.
In the UK, Peter Healey recently suggested that offering flexible benefits to applicants could help to address a "brain drain" he claimed is taking place in the country's
IT
sector.
