Central and eastern European temporary work 'resists downturn'

16 December 2010
The market for temporary agency jobs in central and eastern Europe managed to weather the financial crisis, new research claims.

A study by the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Eurociett) indicates Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Slovakia saw employment opportunities in this area open up during the past decade.

It also suggests the temporary agency work sector will play a key role in assisting the European economy with recovery from the global downturn, with a contraction seen last year expected to be reversed.

Eurociett president Annemarie Muntz predicted the flexibility in the temporary jobs sector will help businesses "to recover and grow again", while the still-developing industry in central and Eastern Europe will continue to progress, "which will lead to job creation and better functioning labor markets".

Meanwhile, the organization recently highlighted the importance of vocational education and on the job training to the agency work sector.
