China 'to lead clean energy jobs boom'

10 October 2010
A global boom in jobs relating to clean power generation will be led by China, a report states.

The study by Clean Edge suggests that as countries recover from the economic downturn, green energy will play a growing role in national policies.

Entitled 'Clean Tech Job Trends 2010', the report may be of particular interest to those seeking engineering jobs in China and roles in industry.

The firm's co-founder and managing director, Ron Pernick, said: "China has risen from clean-energy neophyte to global clean-energy powerhouse over the past five years."

He added that six out of the ten leading international clean technology employers are now based in the country.

Meanwhile, within the US, it notes that the San Francisco Bay Area is the country's key hotspot for low-carbon energy employment.

Recent figures from the National Statistics Bureau of China indicated that the industrial sector expanded by 13.9 per cent year-on-year during August 2010, an increase in the pace of growth of 0.5 percentage points compared with July.
