Ciett calls for appropriate regulation for private employment sector

28 October 2011
Private employment agencies should be subjected to appropriate regulation around the world, it has been claimed.

This is according to the International Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Ciett), which has told the International Labour Organisation's (ILO's) tripartite Global Dialogue Forum on the issue that a greater "sense of reality is required" about the sector.

Attending the event in Geneva earlier this month, Ciett advised using ILO Convention 181 to guide legislation and advocated closer working with trade unions as well as efforts to tackle rogue operators to ensure the private employment industry flourishes.

The organization also took the opportunity to highlight the positive role played by the sector in generating healthy labor markets in terms of job creation, providing decent work and flexibility, among other attributes.

A recent report from Ciett and The Boston Consulting Group concluded that the industry is being constrained by outdated perceptions and inappropriate regulation, advocating action to remove barriers to progress.
