Clean energy 'to produce 10.5m Indian jobs'

30 April 2011
As many as 10.5 million new jobs could be created in India as a result of investment in green energy, it is claimed.

Renewable technologies are predicted to boost employment in the country substantially between now and the end of the current decade, a new study quoted by the Financial Chronicle stated.

The Climate Group produced the report, entitled India's Clean Revolution, to assess the emerging market for green jobs and innovations.

At an event in New Delhi to launch the research, chief executive of The Climate Group Mark Kenber said: "There is more happening here in India than you could possibly imagine."

The environmental think tank pointed to developments in areas such as solar and wind power, demand side management, biomass and energy efficiency.

A recent article for Reuters noted that demand for goods and technology from India is growing and the country's manufacturing sector needs to expand to meet it, with many jobs expected in the industry over the coming years.
