Employment agencies pledge to combat youth joblessness

06 November 2011
International efforts to tackle youth joblessness will be backed by recruitment professionals.

This is the claim made by the Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Ciett), which has added its backing to such initiatives at the Business 20 (B20) Summit in Cannes.

Running parallel to the G20 summit of world leaders in the French city, the gathering called for better functioning labor markets in order to combat global unemployment.

Ciett corporate members Randstad and Adecco participated in the Employment and Social Dimension Working Group at the event and the final report by the body stated that more jobs are needed for young people.

Other recommendations made in the publication included fostering flexible working, including agency work, promoting mobility and skills transfers, developing closer public-private cooperation and partnerships and combating the specific challenges faced by young people in the labor market.

President of the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Eurociett) Annemarie Muntz recently stated: "The agency work industry pledges to support governments in tackling this issue of persistently high levels of youth unemployment."

In related news, Eurociett recently welcomed the adoption of a report by the European Parliament on the New Skills and Jobs initiative in the Europe 2020 Strategy.
