Employment growth predicted for US diesel industry
30 September 2011
Return to index
Those looking for
engineering jobs
in the US may be set to benefit from employment growth in the country's diesel
industry
.
A new report has forecast gains for the sector, which provides $480 billion in value to the nation's economy.
The research, produced by Aspen Environmental Group and M.Cubed, found that 1.25 million jobs were generated by the diesel
industry
during 2009.
It also suggests that the sector will play a larger role in US economic growth in the future as policymakers seek to promote fuel-efficient technologies.
"Diesel technology's future value is further enhanced by its suitability for hybrid applications and its readiness to utilize a diverse range of first and second generation renewable and biodiesel fuels," said the document.
Figures from the research also indicated that diesel is responsible for moving 83 per cent of freight by value in the US.
A recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that nonfarm payroll employment remained unchanged in August 2011.
