Engineering boom 'creates jobs in Qatar'

22 October 2010
Qatar is experiencing a boom in engineering work, it has been claimed.

An article by the Peninsula suggests the state is seeing growing demand for such professionals with "a slew of ongoing as well as planned mega infrastructure and gas development projects".

According to the news source, engineers in the mechanical and civil fields are particularly needed, as well as those with technical qualifications to meet companies' recruitment requirements.

This may be of particular interest to those seeking engineering jobs in the Middle East, with the article claiming the rising demand for professionals was revealed by HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar's minister of municipality and urban planning, during a visit to a local university.

He highlighted to an audience at Texas A&M University that large-scale developments such as the Greater Doha Metro Rail project are underway, with local and overseas staff needed to fill posts.

Qatar is bidding for the 2022 World Cup tournament, which could result in more infrastructure and development schemes if it hosts the contest.
