EU country-specific employment recommendations win approval

08 June 2011
A series of recommendations based on each country within the European Union (EU) has been granted approval by the executive body.

The European Commission stated the plans are intended to increase economic growth and job creation in the region and improve fiscal and social policies.

Proposals are in line with key priorities agreed by member states earlier this year, with targeted measures drawn up for each state to focus on over the coming 12 to 18 months.

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso declared: "These efforts, if made seriously and by all, will allow Europe to leave the crisis behind it and safeguard our future prosperity."

In addition to the "tailored, targeted and measurable" plans for each nation, recommendations have been adopted by the commission for the eurozone, all of which will be debated by the European Council later this month.

A recent conference was held in Rome entitled Europe 2020: the future of employment in Europe and Italy to examine issues relating to jobs within the region's growth strategy.
