EU funds provided for Danish employment programs

04 August 2010
Two grants worth a total of more than €10 million have been approved by the European Commission to help Danish workers find employment.

The European Union (EU) funding will go towards schemes providing former workers at engineering firms with assistance in looking for new positions.

It has been allocated by the EU Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) and aims to ensure that 1,149 workers who have lost their jobs at Linak and Danfoss Group find a way back into employment.

Those seeking engineering jobs in Denmark may be interested to know that the applications will now be put before the European Parliament and EU ministers to seek their approval.

Laszlo Andor, EU commissioner for employment, social affairs and inclusion, stated: "I am confident that the support and training the EGF can provide to the Danish workers will make the transition to a new job easier."

The Scandinavian country has a population in excess of 5.5 million.
