EU 'needs to press ahead with labor market plans'

12 October 2011
More needs to be done to implement the European Union's New Skills and Jobs Agenda and labor market reforms, it has been claimed.

President of the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies Annemarie Muntz has stated the sector can play a role in future growth and jobs objectives.

"Given that today's average employment rate is about 62 per cent in the EU27, there is a strong need for innovative active labour market policies," Ms Muntz declared.

She told the Eurocities Social Affairs Forum that the agency work industry can assist in particular in meeting the goals of the New Skills and Jobs Strategy and ensuring that future European labor markets meet the needs of employers and workers.

Speaking in Rotterdam, Ms Muntz added focused on the potential contribution of the sector to enhancing and matching skills, improving job quality and working conditions and boosting job creation.

Ms Muntz is currently director of group public affairs at Randstad Holding, while the company's executive vice-president of social and general affairs, Fred van Haasteren, was recently appointed as president of Ciett, the International Confederation of Private Employment Agencies.
