EU organization makes agency work recommendations

06 July 2010
More needs to be done to make European Union (EU) labor markets more effective, it has been claimed.

This is the view expressed by Eurociett, which has unveiled a series of ten recommendations designed to "unlock the contribution of the agency work industry", which include proposals to collaborate with the sector, establish a more balanced regulatory environment for the industry, expand it in the future and to fight unemployment and promote inclusive labor markets.

Aimed at ensuring the EU meets its employment targets for 2020, the advice features suggestions that are intended to boost flexibility, labor markets participation and ensure skills match demand.

Announced at the Eurociett Stakeholders Conference in Brussels, the recommendations call for greater mobility and recognition of agency and temporary work as "the most secure form of external flexible employment".

According to Eurociett president Annemarie Muntz, those nations that have done worst during the economic downturn are "those which have not yet reformed their labor market, embraced flexicurity and modern labor relations".

The body is the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies and brings together 27 national federations from across the region.
