Eurociett head emphasizes changing nature of European labor markets

28 November 2011
The current rapidly changing and volatile nature of the global economy is having a substantial effect on the employment industry.

This is the claim made by Denis Pennel, managing director of the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Eurociett), who stated that modern labor markets are characterized by "destandardization, individualism and intermediation".

Speaking to the European Employment Forum, he explained that the world of work is changing and this requires a rethink of the way in which it is organized.

"There is a need to place the employee at the heart of the employment relationship," he declared, adding that employment situations are becoming more varied, with around 40 per cent of contracts in Europe not permanent and millions of self-employed workers.

Mr Pennel proposed that "a diversity of contracts and employment status will be needed" in the future in order to boost participation and improve the function of labor markets.

His comments come after the International Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Ciett) recently praised employment plans unveiled by the G20 leaders, which outlined their commitment to combating youth joblessness and promoting social inclusion, among other policies.
