European agency work industry climbs by 25%

07 April 2011
An increase in the European agency work industry of 25.2 per cent was witnessed year-on-year in January 2011, a new report reveals.

Figures from the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Eurociett) show that the sector witnessed ten consecutive periods of expansion to the month in question.

According to the Agency Work Business Indicator (AWBI), Germany in particular saw strong growth in temporary and contract jobs over the year to January, with the number of people employed in such roles climbing by 37.8 per cent during the 12 months.

The measure provides information about the agency work industry in ten European nations and pointed to a 31.5 per cent increase in hours completed by those employed in related positions in Italy and a 24.5 per cent gain in France.

Last month, Eurociett president Annemarie Muntz stated that temporary and contract jobs play an important part in the integration of migrant workers into labor markets.
