European output growth generates employment

23 April 2011
A new report has indicated that more jobs have been created in Europe this month as manufacturing across the continent performs well.

The Markit Flash Eurozone PMI showed that the pace of growth of employment across the continent has seen its 12th consecutive rise in April and now rests at a level last seen in November 2007.

Chris Williamson, chief economist at Markit, said: "This is particularly welcome news, as higher employment should help sustain robust broad-based economic growth in coming months."

The figures were propelled by an increase in activity in both the manufacturing and services sectors, with the Eurozone Composite Output Index at 57.8 in April, up 0.2 points from March statistics.

Yahoo Finance recently reported Capital Economics figures which showed that the services sector has seen a slower than previous rate of growth in April, while economists have been surprised by the increase in production of the eurozone's factories.
