Eurozone performs better than expected

06 January 2012
Unemployment figures in the Eurozone were better than expected in November, as forecasts were proved to be wrong.

According to the new figures released by Eurostat, the rate of unemployment in the Eurozone in November 2011 was 10.3 per cent.

This figure was the same as the month prior, and defied the predictions of experts who had said that the statistic would see a considerable rise.

However, the number of people out of jobs in the Eurozone, which now amounts to 16.372 million, is a record for the Eurozone, which has never seen such high levels of unemployment.
The worst performing Eurozone country is Spain, where unemployment currently sits at 22.9 per cent, far worse than any other member state.

However, Spain recently reported that the number of job seekers in Catalonia had fallen by 1,425 in December, despite the fact that the number of jobs over the year as a whole had fallen.
