Expert highlights role of agency work in labor migration
07 March 2011

Temporary jobs play an important role in aiding the integration of migrant workers into the labor market.
This is the view expressed by Annemarie Muntz, president of the European Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Eurociett), who pointed to agency positions as contributing to "facilitating short term work migration".
Addressing an audience at the European Policy Centre, she added it can also "help to close the potential employment gap which is expected to reach 33 million people in Europe in 2050."
In her dialogue on Temporary and Circular Migration, Ms Muntz explained agency jobs are helpful in managing labor transitions and stressed the need for better control measures regarding immigration, both within the European Union and from nations outside it.
She noted effective enforcement of legislation can help to enhance competitiveness and meet skills shortages, as well as protecting temporary migrant workers.
Eurociett has welcomed a new position paper on the New Skills and Jobs Flagship Initiative from the European Commission for a series of priorities it put forward to increase growth, improve labor markets, enhance the quality of available roles and develop training.
