11 December 2010
Return to index
The jobless rate in Ireland declined by one percentage point during November 2010, new data indicate.
Ireland's Central Statistics Office (CSO) has revealed the country saw the rate of unemployment fall from 13.6 per cent in October to 13.5 per cent last month, although it still stands above the 13.2 per cent recorded in the second quarter of this year.
The live register, which includes seasonal, casual and part-time workers, dropped by 4,200 during November to 425,002, a 2.8 per cent climb year-on-year compared with a 12-monthly rise in October of 17,146, or 4.2 per cent.
In addition, the CSO reports those claiming jobseekers benefit declined by 3,176 over the period in question to 119,000 and all of the eight regions of the country saw falls in the live register last month, with the highest drop in Dublin (-2.1 per cent).
The largest monthly dips in individuals on the live register were recorded in the professional group, followed by the clerical and secretarial category.
Recent official data showed average earnings in Ireland decreased between the second and third quarters of 2010 from €693.58 a month to €685.10, as the economy experienced problems.
