Further growth forecast for Indian IT/BPO sector
30 July 2010
Return to index
The Indian IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is expected to expand by ten million jobs during the next ten years.
This is according to a report from the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), which has predicted that the field will continue to see a jobs book, following a six-fold rise in direct employment since 2001, the Economic Times reports.
According to the organization's president, Som Mittal, an estimated 20 million individuals will be indirectly employed in the field during the next decade.
"The number of direct employment in the IT and BPO sectors alone is estimated to be 10 million," he added.
People seeking IT jobs in India may also be interested to learn that the NASSCOM representative praised the hiring policies of many companies in the industry and also suggested that growing competition from China should be viewed as an opportunity.
A recent report in the Hindustan Times supported Mr Mittal's comments, noting that India is experiencing an employment book in IT, with particularly high levels of demand seen for business services.
