Return to index
A further drop has been recorded in the number of people out of work in Germany during February 2011.
This is according to official data, which show there were 3.07 million individuals without jobs over the month, compared with January.
Statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reveal unemployment stands at its lowest figure since September 1992, having fallen last month by 52,000.
Joblessness during February declined from 7.4 per cent to 7.3 per cent, it lowest point since reunification of the nation in 1991, Timo Klein of Global Economics told Agence France-Presse.
According to the news source, the latest figures were better than analysts had predicted and were welcomed by economy minister Rainer Bruederle.
Wiesbaden-based Destatis also revealed there was a 1.2 per cent rise in the number of people in employment in Germany, equating to 466,000 individuals, between January 2010 and the same month of 2011, taking the total in work to 40.2 million.
