Green jobs growth forecast for Hawaii

22 December 2010
A new report suggests the green employment sector in Hawaii will expand substantially over the coming years.

Compiled by the state's Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, it claims renewable energy markets will expand at a faster rate than other areas of the economy.

Those seeking engineering jobs in the US may also be interested to learn the study predicts that more than 14,000 people will be working in the sector by 2012.

In addition, the agency forecasts the green industry will comprise 2.9 per cent of total employment in Hawaii in two years' time, as it is expected to grow by 26 per cent.

Significant jobs increases are anticipated in the solar panel and insulation installation, construction, waste management and professional services areas.

The seasonally-adjusted employment rate for Hawaii stood at 6.4 per cent in November this year, remaining stable for the fifth month in a row, the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations reported recently.
