Green technology investment 'to generate Malaysian jobs'

19 October 2010
New jobs will result from plans by Malaysia's government to invest in green technology in the country.

This is according to the Malaysian Star, which reports proposals have won support from industry.

Incentives are going to be provided to businesses developing and investing in green technology, while the Pioneer Status and Investment Tax Allowance for renewable energy and sustainable activities has been extended to December 2015.

President of the Malaysia Green Building Confederation Von Kok Leong told the news source: "We have been lobbying for an extension of as many green projects as possible."

Meanwhile, Thomas Brandt, chairman of the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Environment, Energy and Green Tech Committee, explained that introducing a feed-in tariff for low-carbon power will help to boost renewables jobs and increase Malaysia's income.

Malaysia has a population of around 27.17 million and comprises a peninsula and the island of Borneo between Thailand and Singapore.
