Growth in US passenger airline employment recorded

21 February 2011
An increase in workers in the US passenger airline industry of 0.2 per cent was recorded over the year to December 2010.

This is according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), which found scheduled carriers boosted employment during the 12 months, marking the first time in more than two years this figure has risen.

An agency of the US Department of Transportation, BTS revealed the sector has seen 28 consecutive monthly declines in full-time equivalent employee rates, with hiring at low-cost carriers boosting jobs.

Those seeking engineering jobs in the US may be interested in the latest data tables from the organization, which show the number of employees of scheduled passenger carriers climbed by 698 year-on-year in December to 379,651.

Figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate a 0.4 point decline in unemployment during January 2011 to nine per cent, with a rise in payroll jobs over the month of 36,000.
