06 October 2011
Return to index
Changes have been announced by the High Commission in India regarding the employment of skilled and unskilled citizens of the nation working in Malaysia.
Under the revised guidelines for employers, a minimum wage structure will be put in place, starting from 800 rands per month.
Covering industries including
construction
, restaurants and general workers, firms will be required to pay workers a minimum monthly wage.
In addition, employees in sectors such as agriculture will be granted basic payments from 850 rands per month, while those in skilled jobs should receive 1,200 rands a month and maids 1,400 per month.
Any contracts in breach of the new regulations will not be endorsed by the High Commission from November 1st 2011.
Efforts to create new jobs within India were recently highlighted by union minister of labor and employment Shri Mallikarjun Kharge who told the G20 Labour Ministers Conference in Paris that such strategies should be at the heart of growth plans.
