Improving US confidence expected to increase jobs

21 April 2011
Confidence in the recovery of the US economy could see more firms anticipate the growth of their companies through the provision of jobs.

According to the National Association of Business Economics' Industry Outlook Survey, 94 per cent of respondents said they believe the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country will grow by at least two per cent this year.

Some 38 per cent are expecting a three per cent increase, while 100 per cent said that employment would remain steady or rise in the next six months and that layoffs would not have an effect.

Those in the sales, profits, employment, and capital spending industries were the most optimistic about their particular sector.

Shawn DuBravac, chief economist at the Consumer Electronics Association, said: "Both recent results and the outlook for sales and profit margins continue to improve."

The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics recently stated that there were 3.1 million job openings on the last business day of
February 2011.
