India 'experiencing IT jobs boom'
19 July 2010
Return to index
An employment boom is taking place in the India IT sector, according to a new article.
However, the Hindustan Times reports that the latest recruitment drive has taken a different guise from the internet dot com days, as demand remains strong for firms such as business services group Infosys.
Journalist N Madhavan noted the company has seen an increase in wages and a 15.8 per cent staff attrition rate, indicating that the hiring market is competitive.
Infosys reported a 2.4 per cent dip in its net profits for the first quarter of the fiscal year, compared with the same period of 2009, but raised its outlook for the full 12 months in response to strong levels of demand.
Those seeking IT jobs in India may also be interested to note that the writer pointed to plans from Tata Consultancy Services to appoint 40,000 new employees this year, raising a previous forecast of 30,000.
The feature also suggested that competition for talented staff is growing among businesses such as IBM, HCL, Cognizant and MphasiS, as perks in place a decade ago are replaced by strong salaries.
