India 'needs more skilled engineers'

05 November 2010
Those graduating from engineering courses in India lack the skills required to perform roles, it has been claimed.

A new report from Ansys highlights the focus on examinations in institutions rather than on project-based work, according to Mydigitalfc.com.

The engineering simulation software specialist's country manager Gautam Dutta explained that a study it has conducted found 90 per cent of the nation's engineering resources need further training to do jobs in the field.

He told the news source that ten per cent of engineering jobs in India are currently filled by graduates in related degrees from leading institutions in the country, with the remainder requiring additional skills experience.

Ansys India has announced a new partnership with Entuple Technologies and ATeN Systems and Technology that will enable it to expand its simulation software activities in the country.

Commenting on the agreement, ATeN managing director Nawdeep Puranik highlighted the need for more practical curricula in universities.

"India has become the world's engineering and manufacturing outsourcing hub. Every year more than 2,500 engineering students graduate from engineering and polytechnic institutes," he stated.
