Indian IT industry 'expected to expand in 2011'

06 January 2011
The IT sector in India will witness employment growth this year and see its fortune improve following a mixed 2010 for the global technology field.

This is according to the country's Economic Times, which claims the industry is "cautiously optimistic", having returned to a strong growth path in 2010.

Although economic conditions in the US and Europe - both large export markets for Indian IT solutions and services - remain uncertain, industry group National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) is predicting year-on-year growth in overseas trade of 13 to 15 per cent and expansion of 15 to 17 per cent in the domestic market.

"We have seen growth returning and business coming back because of transformational needs of our global customers and changing business models favouring more outsourcing and off-shoring of IT services," president of the body Som Mittal is quoted as saying.

In related news, in an opinion piece for the Seattle Times, Mr Mittal has insisted India is not responsible for labor market problems in the US and is actually a net jobs creator for the nation.
