Internal market meeting to debate EU labor problems

27 June 2011
Problems associated with labor markets in the European Union (EU) will be the subject of talks being held later this month in Poland.

The discussions in Warsaw by the Workers Group of the European Economic and Social Committee will include working sessions on the current employment climate in Poland and the economic crisis in Europe.

An extraordinary meeting of the body has been called on June 30th 2011 to debate the "revision of the internal market with specific focus on its social dimension".

Attendees will consider the potential of the internal market to address issues relating specifically to the future of EU employment.

"The Workers Group pays particular attention to the difficult social situation on the labour market in the European Union," president Georges Dassis stated.

It will also provide a forum for the Polish presidency of the EU to outline its employment objectives for its term of office.

In related news, EU leaders have endorsed European Commission proposals for the integration of the Roma minority by the 27 member states, including issues relating to employment.
