19 October 2011
Undertaking an internship is key for business school leavers hoping to secure a job in the industry, a new study has revealed.

According to the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) Global Management Education Graduate Survey, those who undertook relevant work experience and placements during their time at university or business school were 26 per cent more likely to have an employment offer by the time they finished their studies.

Furthermore, some 70 per cent of those who undertook an internship were later employed on a full-time basis by the company they worked for.

Michelle Sparkman-Renz, director of research communications at GMAC, said: "The value of an internship can't be underestimated - for both the employer and the employee

According to recent Labor force statistics from OECD, the unemployment rate in the Euro area stood at 10 per cent during the month of August – the figure it has hovered around since November 2010.
