London City jobs predicted to rise in 2010

26 April 2010
The financial centre of London will witness growth in the number of jobs of 14,000 positions during 2010, it has been forecast.

A new report by the centre for economics and business research (cebr) revealed total positions in the City are predicted to expand by a further 8,000 in 2011 to 329,000, as the sector continues to recover from the impact of the financial markets crisis.

The independent economic analyst revealed it has raised its prediction for jobs growth in 2010 from 8,000 to 14,000 as a result of "the speed with which the financial services sector has turned the corner".

Benjamin Williamson, one of the report's authors and cebr economist, declared: "The fact that the City is looking healthier is by and large a good thing."

However, he stressed the importance of global tax and regulation of banks and financial services firms considering the interests of both stakeholders and the City of London in order to assist economic recovery.
