Migrants flood out of Europe to find work

22 December 2011
Thousands of migrant workers are now leaving the EU every year in a bid to find jobs elsewhere in the world, it has been revealed.

While it used to be the case that millions of workers would be trying to come into Europe to find favourable conditions for working, many people from countries like Portugal and Greece are now heading to Australia and Angola to work.

According to the Guardian, 2,500 Greeks went to Australia in the past year, while 10,000 Portuguese have gone to Angola to find a job.

Irish residents are also leaving the country in high volumes, with 50,000 expected to leave over the next year to head to the US and Australia, in search of a better life.

It was recently reported that Australia was suffering a shortage of skills, so migrant workers there will be preferred for IT jobs, as well as those in other sectors.
