Modernization 'to drive up Russian employment'

17 December 2010
Despite the general assumption that modernization pushes down employment in a nation, this will not be the case in Russia, it is claimed.

According to RIA Novosti, the president has declared: "Our task is to create new, more modern jobs."

Dmitry Medvedev stated the conditions in place in Russia should lead to additional positions being generated, improved quality of life and higher wages, with real income expected to have increased by five per cent this year.

He also noted that joblessness is anticipated to drop by two million, although the news source reports it was not clear about what period he was referring to.

Mr Medvedev added labor migration is vital to the Russian economy and warned against employing foreign workers as "slave labor".

Meanwhile, Russia's state statistics service has reported that industrial output in the country increased by 6.7 per cent over the year to November 2010, potential generating new jobs.
