Mycroft boosts IT jobs in Ireland

06 June 2011
IT jobs in Ireland have received a boost this month thanks to cyber security company Mycroft, which sells identity management and security products to organizations in healthcare, financial services and the public sector.

A total of 50 positions are to be made available at the firm's Waterford base in the south-east of the country, the Irish Times reports.

Richard Bruton, minister for enterprise, jobs and innovation, made the announcement, stating that the move is a "vote of confidence in the high-tech potential of the regional economy".

The Waterford facility will focus on research and development, technical support and the development of cloud-based security services.

Mr Bruton went on to add that, according to a recent Microsoft report, Ireland's cloud computing industry will be worth €9.5 million by 2014, employing approximately 8,600 people.

According to the European Union, moving to cloud computing could drive potential cost savings and revenues for companies.
