National capital region 'pushes up Indian jobs growth'
15 September 2011
Return to index
The number of paid roles in India was driven upwards during August this year by the Delhi-national capital region (NCR), new figures suggest.
According to the Press Trust of India, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and
Industry
of India (Assocham) found more than 24 per cent of entry-level posts generated over the month were in the Delhi-NCR area, while the financial services and
IT
sectors saw strong levels of job creation.
In addition, the organization revealed that large metropolitan cities (Tier-I) saw a 30 per cent year-on-year climb in jobs, with an estimated 45,859 positions provided in August and Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata also witnessing significant workforce expansion.
Commenting on the report, Assocham secretary general DS Rawat stated: "Hiring activity in August remained widespread mainly across entry and middle management levels as key industrial sectors are looking at strengthening their workforce to improve their business activities."
Additional
industry jobs
could be created in India if a prediction by Assocham that the nation will become the world's second largest steel producer by 2013 comes true.
