NI Catholic workforce on the increase
16 December 2011
Return to index
The number of people of the Catholic faith who hold jobs in Northern Ireland is on the increase, according to Fair Employment figures.
Latest statistics from Fair Employment show that the number of Catholics with full time jobs now makes up 46 per cent of the workforce in the British country, while Protestants make up 54 per cent of all workers.
This means there has been a slight increase of 0.5 per cent in the number of Catholic people in employment in Northern Ireland, according to the BBC.
However, overall, the employment outlook in Northern Ireland has seen a decrease. This is representative of the whole UK, where joblessness is now at a 17-year high.
Bob Collins from the Equality Commission said: "We want to be sure that there is fairness in these areas and that it is just demographics or changes in the economic circumstances and that there isn't something else at work."
