Olympic venue legacy will create jobs

10 January 2012
Even after this summer's Olympics in London have finished and the media circus that comes with it has long gone, job opportunities in Waltham Forest will continue thanks to the securing of the legacy of the Olympic venues.

The Olympic Park Legacy Company has estimated that the venues will still be well used even after the games are finished, with an estimated 800,000 people expected to use the aquatics centre for example in the space of a year.

It is believed that 254 workers will be employed between the aquatics centre and Handball Arena alone.

Afzal Akram, Waltham Forest Council cabinet member for business and employment, said: "It's brilliant news the people who are securing the Olympic sites now are committing to local work programmes. It is a massive boost for employment for our residents."

The games will take place in London this year, following on from similar job boosting events in China, when Beijing hosted the games in 2008.
