Olympics 'will create staffing opportunities'

05 March 2011
Temporary employment opportunities in the UK look set to increase as a result of the upcoming Olympic Games, a tournament that will also help people develop expertise and amass experience that will assist them in their careers after it comes to a close.

This is according to Tom Hadley, director of policy and professional services at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, who noted that the competition will provide a significant boost to the London job market in the run-up to the Games.

With regards to the longer-term legacy of the contest, he explained that there is an opportunity to encourage people outside of employment to receive appropriate training and experience that will stand them in good stead later.

Mr Hadley remarked: "With young jobseekers, we know that a lot more needs to be done to build bridges into the world of work."

Construction workers will likely have already seen a boost in employment figures as a result of the 2012 event, with over 12,000 people enlisted to build the Olympic Park and Athletes' Village sites.
