PM pledges action on jobs in Hungary

03 February 2011
The Hungarian prime minister has declared the government plans to make boosting employment one of its key priorities.

According to Reuters, Viktor Orban stated the administration plans to increase current levels of people in work from 55 per cent by taking radical steps to address joblessness.

Speaking on February 2nd, he told a news conference in Budapest that policies would be unorthodox in order to boost recruitment.

The prime minister also pointed out during the same address the state pension system needs to be reviewed in order to make it sustainable.

Meanwhile, he said the new constitution should cover issues including public accounts to ensure automatic measures are enacted if the nation reaches a set level of debt, with the document due for approval later in 2011.

The Baltic Course reports that Hungary's new public employment programme is replacing a complicated system with one that is intended to be "transparent and financially viable".
