Rise in US IT employment during 2010
17 January 2011
Return to index
The number of positions created for those seeking
IT jobs
in the US rose by nearly 100,000 last year, new figures show.
According to a study by TechServe Alliance, employment in the sector expanded month-on-month in December 2010, with 3,500 roles generated.
A total of 13 monthly rises in a row were recorded by the organization in
IT jobs
, with 3,911,900 individuals working in the
industry
by the end of last year.
The body, which comprises a number if
IT
firms, consultants, suppliers and clients, revealed there were around 100,000 new jobs created in 2010, taking employment in the field up by 2.6 per cent.
TechServe Alliance chief executive Mark Roberts stated: "While still well short of regaining all of the positions that were lost during the downturn, the gain of 100,000
IT jobs
in 2010 is most welcome news."
He forecast a "strong year for
IT
employment" during 2011.
Meanwhile, recent data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated unemployment fell during December 2010 by 0.4 points to 9.4 per cent, with 103,000 roles created over the month.
