Rise recorded in Australian job adverts

12 January 2011
An increase in job advertising was recorded in Australia during December 2010, it has been claimed.

Latest data from Australia & New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) show a two per cent increase in posts placed online and in newspapers.

It marks the eighth consecutive month of rises, indicating economic growth in the country is continuing to generate work.

November saw a revised three per cent expansion in advertised roles, according to ANZ Bank.

The institution's head of Australian macroeconomics, Katie Dean, stated: "Australian labor demand remained solid over the final months of 2010."

Total average job ads were estimated to stand at 188,614, 27.4 per cent above the level reported for December 2009, although flooding in Queensland last month may have affected the state's newspaper advertising.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics published last month showed a 0.2 percentage point dip in joblessness between October and November 2010 to 5.2 per cent.
