Samsung to bring 500 jobs to Scotland

01 February 2012
Samsung Heavy Industries is set to offer an employment boost to the Scottish economy through the creation of jobs thanks to a £100 million investment.

The Korean technology giant is bringing development of its offshore wind technology to Fife Energy Park, based in Methil, where it is expected that it will generate somewhere in the region of 500 jobs for the local area.

Plans were unveiled at the Scottish Offshore Wind and Supply Chain Conference in Aberdeen on Monday January 31st.

Scottish first minister Alex Salmod said: "Their choice of Scotland as their first base in Europe for renewable technology development is testament to the fact this country is fast becoming the European centre for research and development in new offshore wind technologies."

This announcement comes just days after another worldwide company, Domino Printing Solutions, announced that it would be creating 400 jobs in the area around Cambridge by building a new global headquarters.
