Slovakian industrial jobs decline slows

12 August 2010
The rate of decline in Slovakian industrial jobs has slowed, new data reveal.

Figures from the country's government show that industrial production rose by 23.5 per cent during June 2010 compared with the same month of last year, driven by sharp increases in energy and manufacturing markets.

Meanwhile, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports that employment fell in the sector by 2.5 per cent, slowing substantially from an annual fall of 14.3 per cent recorded in January this year and 4.2 per cent in May.

In addition, annual salaries in the field rose by seven per cent over the 12 months to June.

Industrial production in Slovakia has risen year-on-year by 22 per cent since the start of 2010, indicating that it is recovering from the global economic downturn.

Recent employment data for the country revealed that jobless rates dipped across all main sectors during June this year, with 474,000 individuals employed in industry during the month.
