Strong future forecast for Canadian jobs markets

22 December 2010
A series of sectors within the Canadian labor market are likely to see stronger than average growth in employment over the next 12 months.

This is according to the Toronto Star, which has suggested a series of industries that may be of interest to young people looking for work or individuals seeking a career change.

Healthcare is highlighted as an area where jobs are likely to be created during 2011, with large numbers of people retiring and growth forecast for the medical-pharmaceutical sector.

The article notes Statistics Canada has reported there were 120,000 healthcare positions generated in November 2010, a year-on-year rise of 6.1 per cent.

In addition, those seeking IT jobs in Canada may be interested in the claim that: "Technology dominates our lives nowadays, meaning there's a need for workers well-versed in that realm."

Further industries expected to see employment growth next year included financial services and construction.

Canada's employment rate dropped over the month to November 2010 by 0.3 percentage points to 7.6 per cent, its lowest level since January last year.
