Strong investment forecast for global wind turbine sector may provide jobs
22 August 2011
Return to index
The international wind turbine
industry
is expected to see substantial investment over the long term, it has been predicted.
This could lead to an increase in the number of green jobs around the world, including
engineering
positions, as a report by IHS Emerging Energy Research stated the sector has managed to weather the recession and will witness significant growth as a result of global trends towards the deployment of renewable energy technology.
The organization forecast international growth in investment in wind turbines from $30 billion last year to over $68 billion by 2025, with overall worldwide installed capacity climbing to 940 gigawatts.
Entitled 'Global Wind Turbine Markets and Strategies: 2011-2025', the study anticipates increasing competition between suppliers in Asia and Europe will help to drive the
industry
, something that could provide
construction
and manufacturing jobs, in addition to those for engineers.
In the UK, wind power investments is likely to increase after the Renewable Energy Foundation recently revealed that the country missed its goal in this area by a substantial margin in 2010 and must do more in order to achieve its 2020 goals.
